After high school, I attended Central Wash State College in Ellensburg, Yakima Valley College, and Yakima Business College. In 1970, I took a job at American Baptist Seminary in Berkley, Ca. May of 1971 I moved to Portland OR and cared for an elderly woman for 6 months and then I worked at Multnomah Bible School for another 6 months. That summer I met Garry Engeman at a college Bible study. We started dating in the fall, and were married the following June 1972. We have 5 wonderful daughters. Joy 29, is married to Matt Hammar and they have our first grandson Jakob who is 9 months old. Janell 27, is married to Dan Hartley and they are planning to be missionaries in South Africa. Julie 25, is a paramedic out of the Tillamook hospital on the Oregon Coast. Joleen 23, has a great job at Clark County Utilities, and Jessica 20, is a freshman at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City and is the keeper on their girls soccer team. We also had a 17 year old foster daughter for her senior year of school. They all live nearby. We have lived in Portland our whole married life and have been in our present home over 30 years. I have been very fulfilled being a wife and mother for over 32 years. Garry worked 21 1/2 years at Tektronix as a hardware/software engineer, 10 years as a software quality engineer at Credence Systems. He was unemployed for 16 months when Oregon was first hit with the high-tech downsizing. He has been at Intel for 2 1/2 years. God was very faithful, but the 40% cut in pay at Intel has been hard. We are also working at our home business Market America part time. We have been involved in our church. We love to serve others and practice hospitality. We have had several young people live in our home. As the girls became very involved in music and sports we enjoyed entering into their activities which included basketball and soccer games, violin recitals, choir tours, etc. Our family enjoyed many spring breaks at the Oregon Coast near Cannon Beach. In 1989 we went to Disneyland and Sea World, San Francisco, and a jet boat ride on the Rogue River. When our 4th daughter, Joleen was a senior in HS in 1999, we went with her group on a educational tour to France and Italy. My favorite spot was Monico. Garry and I have gone to Victoria, BC, and to Leavenworth enjoying the English and Scandinavian cultures depicted there. We like dramas and symphonies and especially the concerts in the parks of Portland this summer. We have traveled to Greensboro, NC several times and also visited friends in Pennsylvania. In the mid 80s, my mother's dream was to visit Hawaii, so I accompanied her there. We also traveled to Kentucky together to see many of her relatives of her mother and father's side of the family. There have been some difficult times with losing 3 parents in one year, and my own heath challenges, but I can see how God has led me and blessed me. The Dr. I had in high school and college said I would never be able to be married or have a family, but God did exceedingly abundantly beyond what I could ask or think. The desires of my heart have been fulfilled with a gentle, caring husband and a beautiful bouquet of daughters, all unique and special. It has been special to have my cousins, Patti and Dan Ohall, nearby to share family gatherings, picnics and the symphony. This summer Garry and I went canoeing on Trillium Lake located at the base of Mt Hood. We like day trips around the area with picnic lunches. Being raised on the farm with lots of animals we've always had a small zoo! Now we're down to two kitties. I do some critter care in order to get my dog fix. I hand out dog treats to many of my neighborhood canine acquaintances. Well, my fellow classmates, here we are in the autumn season of our lives. Some have already died. We are not promised tomorrow. May I encourage you to evaluate where you are on your spiritual journey and realize we will all have to stand before our Creator some day and give an account of what we did with His Son Jesus. Our good deeds and accomplishments will not give us eternal life. Only believing on the Lord Jesus Christ, confessing we are sinners and receiving his forgiveness will give us the privilege of spending eternity in heaven with Him. God bless each one of you. |

40 Years, already, my how time flies. After graduation I enlisted into the Marine Corps, two of my four years was spent in Vietnam. After the Corps I became a Washington State Trooper and got married, first time. My time with the State Patrol was spent in the south Seattle area working the freeway and some of the roads off the freeway. Left the State Patrol in 1972 after four years. My next adventure was three years in the Army stationed at Fort Lewis as an Military Policeman and Military Police Intelligent (MPI), this was from 1973 to 1976. Left the Army to pursue some other adventures. Worked at some different jobs until 1978 when I joined the Tacoma Police Department. I got a divorce in 1982 from my first wife and stayed single until 1995 when I tied the knot to my current wife, Rachel. Rachel and I have known each other for approximately 35 years. Rachel was married before and has two daughters, 27 yrs & 24 yrs. Together we have a son, Orion, who is 10 . Go ahead and do the math. We live in Fircrest Wa., which is just west of Tacoma. As of June of this year I retired from the Tacoma Police Department as a Forensic Specialist, Unlike the CSI on Television, it was a lot of work putting the pieces of the puzzle together. As a parting line, two months ago Rachel and I became grandparents to Ethan Douglas Crowell, Rachel's youngest daughter. Hope to see you all there. |

After graduating
from Top Hi, I attended YVC for 1 year. I then moved
to Grand Coulee Dam area where I was employed at Security Bank of Wash. Met
my husband Jim during this time. We were married Sept 14, 1968 and moved to
Cheney where he was in his last year of college. I worked at Sea-First.
After graduation Jim received his draft notice. We spent 1 1/2 years in
Germany and got to see much of Europe. Our son, BRETT LANE, was born (Nov
14, 1970) while we were there. Moved back to Coulee Dam where Jim was
employed by USBR. I continued in banking until our daughter BRANDY LYNNAE
was born (Jan 20, 1976). I had the luxury of being a stay at home mom.
Life was perfect! Everything changed in Jan 1985. Jim was killed in a
snowmobile accident, and in Nov of that year my son died after a 20 month
battle with leukemia. This was a very difficult time. |

When I graduated from High School, I worked for my uncle, Tom, at his farm in Toppenish. I went to college at YVC for 1 ½ years. Then I joined the United States Marine Corps. I joined in 1966 and got out in 1970. From 1970 to 1986 I worked for R. H. Bowles Co. I think you know who R.H.Bowles Co is…..or I mean was. I spread a lot of fertilizer on many fields – corn, wheat, etc. My ex-wife and I took a wine tour from Yakima to Prosser the middle of March, 1986. The rest of my story was told to me by my ex-wife and my mother. We visited my mother on April 21, her birthday. I then flew down to California on a business trip for Bowles Co. On April 24 we were getting our picture taken, and I reached up and grabbed my head and passed out. Four months later I woke up at St. E’s. I was in the hospital for 9 ½ months. Then I went to live with my Sister, Donna, and her husband, Allen. My EX-wife divorced me before I got out of the hospital. I took a wheel chair to Donna and Allen’s, and I started to walk again on Christmas Day. I lived with them for six months or so, and then moved to Yakima. I joined the YMCA for about 10 years, and I have been working for Target for 8 ½ years. I work with cosmetics. I have been married to Toni since June of 1997. Toni’s son lives with us, and we are raising our granddaughter. Toni worked for People for People – a transportation company for elderly and handicapped people. That is where I met her. She took me to the fairgrounds and back, and we were married about 9 months later. In January 2000, Toni had a 600 pound electric wheelchair run over her right foot. No bones were broken, but it damaged the cartilage. She is able to walk with a cane, and she is in constant pain. The thing I do for fun is fish. The picture of me is holding a 30 inch, 10 pound trout that I caught in the Sarge Hubbard’s Park for kids and disabled people. I caught this one on a Wednesday, and I caught its twin sister the following Wednesday. I walk one hour three times a day. When I was going to the YMCA it took me one hour to go 14 laps – which is a mile. When I first started, it took me two hours. Jack Getsinger |

Hello everyone, You may not remember me I left Top Hi early on, to work in the family owned restaurant. But for ever have looked forward to someday sharing a reunion with the class. I will see you there this time. A little about me...I worked with my parents in the restaurant for a few years and married young. During my 17 year marriage I had 6 wonderful children that I am so very proud of. I have 4 small grandchildren with one on the way. I furthered my education and I have worked for the City of Seattle for 23 years. My home overlooks the beautiful bay and downtown area. Short and sweet; I know we are getting up there in age but we are definitely getting better. I look forward to spending time with you and catching up on the chapters in our lives. See you there, "T" |

After high school I went to Yakima Valley College for one year and then to Yakima Business College. I have worked in accounting for the past 38 years. I stayed in Yakima working for a CPA firm until I was 25 and then made the big move over the mountains to the Seattle area. Shortly after moving I got a job with Grand Canyon Airlines and Helicopters. My job took me between Seattle and Arizona several times a year. The company sold the business to Scenic Airlines out of Las Vegas. After helping them set up the books I decided I wanted to stay in Washington. Vegas was too HOT for me. My next job was with a manufacturing company, Aero-Go, Inc. I was their Chief Accountant and Human Resource Manager for 25 years. I now work part time and am enjoying that very much. During my twenties I did some traveling. Started hiking and even climbed Mt Adams! When I move to the Seattle area I got involved with the Mountaineers. Did lot of hiking and also got involved with the Mountaineers Players. We put on plays for the ski lodges in winter and the outdoor theater in summer. I even learned how to dance. That was a lot of fun. I got involved with church and Jesus became a very important part of my life and is to this day. Then I turned thirty. I dreaded that age. It sounded so old. Life also changed as two months later my Father died of cancer. WOW we all go through tough times and this was the beginning for me. Two years later I got involved with Northwest Yokefellows. It was a Christian Counseling Group. We had lots of group weekends and support group activities. Learned a lot and grew much. Two years later my Mother died suddenly. OUCH! More counseling and more learning of repressed memories of my childhood. Long story but as painful as this was it began setting me free. Had it not been for Jesus I do not believe I would be here today. Life begins at 40! Now for the best part – the day after my fortieth birthday I began making phone calls. One year and four months later (April 12, 1987) I was standing in the SeaTac International Airport waiting for my daughter to arrive. Interesting birthing room! Kati was born in Madras, India on 11/29/86. She came home weighing in at 8 pounds (4 lbs at birth) Today at 17 she is 4’9 ½ ” tall and all energy. Kati is wonderful and now senior at Seattle Christian. God is so good. Kati is the best gift I have every received. I could write a book about Kati but I will refrain myself. Sad note, my sister Barbara died sudden on 10/23/93. Barbara graduated in 1962. Happy note, five years ago on 6/19/1999 I got married for the first time to AJ Bilderback. He retired from the Coast Guard and NOAA and then he went to work for the Seattle Ferry System. Three years ago he retired for the last time. We have done some traveling and our favorite place has been Alaska. We also have a “little” house in Ocotillo, CA. I have been there a couple of time but AJ goes down to dry out and enjoy the warmth of the desert. I have very much enjoyed seeing all the pictures and reading your stories. Thank you for sharing them. Now may our Lord and Savior bless each and every one of you in a very special way. |

Hello Class of TopHi 64 'What say I" about the current class roster of 1964? I say that we are scattered around the country and getting older, including the undersigned. Thanks to all of you who have worked so hard putting this reunion together once again. It is also sad to see so many of our original class who have gone before us. For me, I still live in the (Lower) Yakima Valley, one of the best kept secrets of the Northwest with lots of sunshine and recreational opportunities. I am somewhat "retired" as of this last May after 30 years in the legal field as a legal secretary/office manager/bookkeeper. The last 22 years were with the same firm. I work "off and on ", helping out my former law office as and when they need me. I had previously worked in the business offices of two major fruit warehouses in the valley early on following our family's move to Grandview in 1970. Jerry ('64 Eisenhower graduate) and I have been married for 38 years. We have two children, Susan and Randy. Jerry retired in 2001 after 37 years in the retail meat industry. He is now full time farming our Granny Smith apple and Bing and Rainier cherry orchards that we have owned and farmed for a number of years. Our daughter Susan lives in Zillah with her husband and two children, ages 12 and 8. Our son Randy, a 1992 CWU graduate, is a major in rank with the Army, currently stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC. He has been given the Legends and Heroes distinguished alumnus award during Central Wash. University 2002 homecoming for his role in leading two successful combat search and rescue missions in the Balkins and Bosnia area in 1999 to rescue downed pilots. He is engaged to Shelly (Dell Rapids, SD native), also an Army officer, and their plans to marry have been put on hold as Shelly is going to Iraq for one year soon. Since I no longer work much in the professional field, I keep busy helping out in the family's 35 acre orchard operation doing the bookkeeping. The rest of my time is devoted to my landscape gardening and our home. This year I finally convinced my husband to extend one side of our yard for more gardening area. We compromised. He got some space to add some additional Granny Smith apple trees in the once small pasture area that bordered our side yard and I have extra ground space for more trees, shrubs and lawn area. Now we need a riding lawn mower. I enjoy working in my yard. We also enjoy watching our grandson and granddaughter play in their AAU basketball and baseball sports. Our daughter Susan coached the boy's 6th grade AAU basketball team last season. As far as traveling highlights, my husband and I have traveled to Europe. While there, we attended the famous Octoberfest in Munich. We toured Bavaria Germany, Austria, and Holland, taking in the canal cruise in Amsterdam. Since our daughter and husband have been on three cruises so far, my husband and I thought we better get our act together. We have booked our first Western Carribean cruise for early Spring 2005. Ahoy! If there are any experienced cruisers in our class, I would love to hear about your experiences. This year my husband and I bought a 35-foot Safari diesel pusher motorhome. We don't plan on being snowbirds, but we would like to travel more to see what is "between here and there" that we don't see when flying across country. Best regards to all. Beverly |

First thing I did after graduation -- Stopped using my given name, for the last 40 years I have been known only as Lynni. I decided right after graduation to work at Yellowstone National Park, it was an awesome summer. For the next two years I continued my education off and on at YVC between working at warehouses and at a sewing factory in Yakima. I have been blessed with a wonderful husband, Ramiro Serrata we lived in Grandview for 30 years. I worked at Rock’s market for a year before beginning my banking career with Old National Bank as a consumer loan coordinator where I worked my way up to a commercial documentation specialist, for 6 years. I continued to work for the same bank, now known as US Bank, going on 26+ years. I have enjoyed my banking career and am currently an Assistant Relationship Manager at Yakima Commercial Lending Center in Yakima. For several years I have been very involved with United Way, working on several committees and participating in the Day of Caring held in September. My husband and I celebrated our 37th anniversary in August at Jim Spreck Community Park on Chinook Pass, where we were evacuated to (on that day) due to the Mud Lake Fire this summer. This has been and continues to be a very memorable year. We have two wonderful children, a son, Noe, who you would say is a wanderer and enjoys working in Alaska on the dock as a foreman or in a fish cannery at one of the remote areas and when he is back down in the lower 40 he is usually a hyster driver. Our daughter, Raquel Elisa, served in the Air Force for 9 years. She ended her military career as a sergeant. Last year she graduated from YVC as an X-ray technichan and works in Yakima. She is also the mother of our beautiful four year old granddaughter, Ashley-Nicolette Kari-Madison (long name for a little girl). And of course Ashley-Nicolette is definitely the center and joy of our lives. Raquel will soon re-marry to a wonderful young man, Jason. Jason is originally from Florida and is a civilian policeman at Yakima Firing Center. In fact my husband and I will soon be flying - - for the very first time - - to attend their wedding in Florida, which I’m looking forward to with a little apprehension (flying) and great joy. After my husband’s heart attack in 1998, he had to retire as owner of Ram’s Body Shop and Ram’s Gun Shop. We felt it was time to sell our home in Grandview and build our dream home in the mountains. Besides our children, we feel this is one of our greatest accomplishments, since neither one of us have ever built anything and carpenters we were not! With friends and family and God’s help we managed to build our 1,000 sq ft modified A-frame home on our mountain top. This type of living is not for everyone, considering we have several miles of dirt road to travel just to reach our home, no electricity or phones. We live off the grid and have to make our own power, by solar, generator and wind machines. Most of our appliances run off of propane. Our water is gravity fed into our home and we use cell phones. I can’t just turn on the microwave when I want; I always have to check to make sure we have enough power before switching over to 210. The drive to our home is well worth the trip (even though many people say we’re crazy once they travel the road for the first time). The inconvenience we put up with is worth it….. just to be able to walk out on our deck every morning and see all of God’s beautiful work around us. In fact, we see more family and friends now then when we lived in Grandview. I guess it is because they love to come up and camp out at our place, who wouldn’t? In the winter we just ride off on our snowmobiles from our back yard and explore the wonders of nature. Besides snowmobiling my other hobbies include cake decorating, hunting and fishing (my husband is an avid hunter and fisherman), reading, camping, sewing, crocheting and hiking. As you can see I have been truly blessed. I wish you all the very best, take care and may God Bless you all. |
